Hayley joined Bolt Burdon Kemp in March 2024 and is a Solicitor in the Abuse Team. Prior to joining BBK, she spent over five years at a London-based law firm where she acted for survivors of abuse and trauma in claims against the police, prison service, educational institutions, local authorities and healthcare bodies.

Hayley has particular expertise in online abuse, having spent a year as a Legal Fellow with the anti-trafficking charity International Justice Mission (IJM), working on prosecuting perpetrators of online sexual exploitation of children. There she received training about how to utilise digital evidence and how these cross-jurisdictional offences are prosecuted.  She is also experienced in bringing civil claims arising from the unlawful release of personal data online.

Hayley also has expertise in public law claims for judicial review and inquests. She has represented several families in inquests where the deceased was a survivor of either sexual or domestic abuse. She also has experience in bringing claims under the Human Rights Act 1998 for breach of fundamental rights under Articles 2 (Right to Life) Article 3 (Degrading treatment) Article 5 (Right to Liberty) Article 6 (Right to a fair trial) and Article 14 (Protection from discrimination).

Hayley has a particular interest in abuse in religious settings; she has thorough knowledge of safeguarding processes in the Church of England and has acted in claims against various religious institutions. She has experience of obtaining financial compensation, but also non-financial remedies such as formal written apologies and changes in institutional procedures.

Hayley has a reputation as a tenacious litigator and advocate and is committed to pursuing the best results for her clients. She has appeared as an advocate in successful appeals in the First Tier Tribunal and before judges in the civil courts. She also has a real interest in mental health and trauma responses and has previously been praised by clients for providing a trauma-informed service.

Hayley is committed to enabling people to obtain legal vindication and redress regardless of ability to pay and is experienced in all methods of funding arrangements including ‘no win no fee’ with After the Event insurance.
