Former Holmewood House teacher charged with sexual abuse offences
A former teacher has been charged following allegations of non-recent sexual abuse at Holmewood House Prep School in Kent.
Neil Scott, now aged 75, was charged in May with four counts of indecent assault and five counts of gross indecency with a child at the school in Langton Green, near Tunbridge Wells. The offences are alleged to have occurred between 1979 and 1985.
On Tuesday 11 June, Scott pleaded not guilty to all counts at Maidstone Magistrates’ Court. He was bailed to next appear at Maidstone Crown Court on 9 July.
Kent Police have urged anyone with information which may assist the investigation to contact them on 01622 604100, quoting reference 46/YY/12142/23.
Holmewood House School is an independent, co-educational preparatory school for boys and girls aged 3–13. It has a mixture of day pupils and boarders.
While a verdict has not been given in this case, survivors of abuse are often entitled to civil compensation for the damage that has been done to them.
Bolt Burdon Kemp is experienced in bringing claims for both recent and non-recent abuse against a range of institutions, including schools. During my career I have been instructed by survivors of sexual and physical abuse at both private and state schools, as well as academies and higher education institutions who were entitled to civil compensation for the damage that has been done to them.
Civil claims for compensation can provide survivors with access to essential resources, including funding for therapy and help recover losses from the abuse they have experienced.
