Witness appeal – abuse by Reverend Roy Wynne-Green, clergyman from Torquay
I represent a client who has instructed me that they were subjected to sexual and emotional abuse by Reverend Roy Wynne-Green between 1972 and 1976 or thereabouts. Reverend Wynne-Green was a clergyman of the Parish of St John’s, Torquay, Devon. He later became the Chaplain at the Royal Surrey County Hospital in Guildford, Surrey.
Wynne-Green was charged with several criminal offences relating to sexually abusing my client. He was subsequently deemed unfit to stand trial earlier this year because of ill health. The charges against him were left to “lie on file”, which means that if his health improved, then his trial would go ahead. Unfortunately, he died a short time later, so no trial will take place to decide the charges filed against him in relation to my client.
The abuse my client alleges was perpetrated by Wynne-Green has had a profound effect on his life. Whilst no further action can continue in the criminal courts due to Wynne-Green’s death, my client is still able to seek justice through the civil courts.
I am appealing for witnesses who may be able to assist with our investigations into our client’s case. It is possible that there are more survivors who have not yet felt able to come forward and speak out about their experience.
If you have any information in relation to Wynne-Green that might assist my client in their pursuit for justice, please contact me directly by email: josephcarr@bbkllp.co.uk or by telephone 07879 222 123.
