Man sentenced for sexually assaulting girl in Derby Primark
A man has been convicted of sexually assaulting a girl in a Primark store in Derby. Jaspal Garcha, 50, denied the assault but was convicted before magistrates who found his evidence evasive, vague and not credible.
The brave teenaged victim immediately reported the assault to the store security and told the court how her eyes had filled with tears following the assault and her ‘emotions spiralled’.
Garcha was sentenced on 17 August to a two year community order and was ordered to pay costs along with £100 compensation to the victim. This does not truly compensate her for what she went through, and whilst no amount of money can erase what happened, she is now entitled to make a claim through the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority, as well as to bring a claim directly against the perpetrator himself.
We have previously brought successful claims on behalf of children abused in Primark stores and have achieved the justice our clients deserve and need for in order to get closure. This compensation is so important in helping victims access therapy and begin their road to recovery after the horrendous impact sexual assault has on their mental wellbeing.
