Former children’s home owner, John Michael Webber, convicted of abuse

In December 2018, John Michael Webber, 78, was convicted at Hove Crown Court in relation to 26 sexual offences against children at the Old Rectory Care Home during the 1970s and 1980s, including 19 indecent assaults, two counts of indecency with a child and five other sexual offences including a total of six boys.

In February 2018 the manager of the care home, Don Grasty was also charged with 10 counts of indecent assault, three of gross indecency and one of serious sexual assault relating to children at the Old Rectory Care Home.  However, Grasty, who was 94 years old, passed away before he could face trial.

Bolt Burdon Kemp’s Joseph Carr has been instructed by one of the individuals abused at the Old Rectory Home in the early 1980s, to pursue a civil claim for compensation arising out of the abuse they were subjected to.  If you have any information that could assist with this case or you think you may have a case, please get in touch.
