Amanda Garner’s Career Journey

  1. Tell us about your career journey so far to date at BBK?

I began working at Igloo/BBK/BB on 1st August 2016 as compliance manager working with Mark Goring. I worked across both firms until 2018 when I transferred solely to BBK to take on the compliance role.

  1. Why did you specialise in the area of work you do?

I was a personal injury fee earner for over 15 years before I went part time after having my children and I moved into compliance in 2009 as it was an expanding role for the large PI firm I worked in at the time. I loved being able to ensure the firm was protected from risks external and internal.

  1. What do you enjoy most about your current role?

The part I enjoy most is supporting the staff to do their best work , they feel comfortable coming to me with issues and queries and I feel I provide a safe haven for these, for me this means that if something more serious were to happen they would be more likely to ask me to help.

  1. What support and training do you receive in your role?

I receive enormous support from all the partners , Rhicha Kapila (Partner & Chief Operations Officer) and Jonathan Wheeler (Managing Partner) particularly, it is very much a team effort. I feel I am learning all the time from all across the firm but if I need external training this is available if I request

  1. What do you enjoy the most working at BBK?

The people and the ethos of the Firm – to always do our best for our clients.

  1. What is your proudest career highlight at BBK?

Being awarded the “trip to Paris “ bonus as this was as a result of feedback and nominations from staff – also being promoted to partner, as a non-lawyer this is something I thought was out of my reach but BBK want to ensure everyone who works here has the ability to thrive and grow.

  1. What advice would you give to someone looking to join BBK?

Do your research – BBK are a niche firm not only in the work we do but in the way we run the firm and care for our clients – make sure you are a team player.
