SCI in the military – a different rehab journey to most
Webinar series launching on 28th September 2022
It is well known that sustaining a spinal cord injury is life changing. However, when we speak with service personnel and veterans who have suffered spinal injury, it has often struck us that the rehab journey for those in service is very different. Coming to terms with a spinal cord injury, accessing rehab and transitioning from life in the military to civilian life brings many unique challenges to those who have not served. Quite often, the biggest challenge is knowing where to start looking for information on what support is available to guide injured personnel through the process that ensues, at the same time as coming to terms with the injury itself.
Therefore collaboration between Bolt Burdon Kemp’s military and spinal team along with the Spinal Injuries Association ensued to bring a spinal and military seminar series focused on SCI in the military.
This is an area where there is not much focus and it is under-resourced. Therefore, the seminar series is the chance for us to share knowledge and provide much needed relevant advice to military personnel and their family and friends.
Military personnel serving or veterans should not be left not knowing such important information and we are passionate about resources and information being accessible.
Bolt Burdon Kemp and the SIA intend to hold a series of seminars throughout September/ October. Participants can sign up (no cost!) to join the whole series or just specific seminars. We appreciate that every spinal cord injury is different, happens at different stages of life and may impact on the decisions to be made in different ways. In our view sharing knowledge and experience can only be a good thing if it helps those who are injured relate and find resources that are useful to them.
The headline topics we plan to cover include, rehabilitation, mental health, employment issues and practical advice following injury.
There will be specialist speakers on each of the above topics including speakers from the SIA. We will also have speakers from the SCI community talking interactively about their experiences.
The seminar series will commence on Wednesday 28th September at 1:00 pm and will be held over zoom and you can be as visible or discrete as you want. What is key is that if you are spinal cord injured service person, veteran or a family member or friend of someone serving/ veteran that you attend.
Don’t miss out on this fantastic opportunity to hear further information.
