Wiggo Calls for Compulsory Helmets Following Cyclist’s Death by Olympic Bus
Cyclist and Olympic Gold Medallist Bradley Wiggins has requested an overhaul of road safety laws following the death of a cyclist caused by an Olympic bus close to the Olympic Veladrome.
The accident which killed a 28 year old man occurred just hours after Wiggins picked up his gold medal yesterday. A 65 year old driver has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has been released on bail.
At the time of the young man’s tragic death, Wiggins was preparing to speak to a press conference following his success. When asked about the crash, he said that the Government should pass laws to make it compulsory for cyclists to wear cycling helmets.
Wiggins also commented that cyclist should protect themselves and said: ‘You shouldn’t be riding along with iPods and phones and things on. You have lights on. Once there are laws passed for cyclists then you are protected and you can say, ‘well, I have done everything to be safe’.
