John James Hewitt jailed for 24 years for abusing children in Hull

In June 2021, John James Hewitt was finally brought to justice having abused children since the 1980s. He was jailed for 24 years in respect of eight counts of rape nine counts of indecent assault and two counts of indecency with a child after trial.

Hewitt spent some time in Spring Cottage children’s home located in Hull in the 1980s. He showed no remorse throughout the trial and when sentencing Judge Bury said “If you are to die in prison serving this sentence then so be it.”

The impact of children who suffer this abuse, particularly at the hands of someone in a position of such responsibility, authority and trust, can be significant and long-lasting.  If you or anyone you know is affected by this development, please feel free to contact my team for assistance.
