Former Chetham’s School of Music Teacher Chris Ling Faces Sex Abuse Charges
A catalogue of allegations of sexual abuse have been made against Chris Ling, a former violin teacher at Chetham’s School of Music. The allegations have been made by ten women who were pupils at the school in the 1980s.
Ling is the latest former Chetham’s teacher to face allegations of sexual abuse with former director of music Michael Brewer having been convicted in 2013 and former teachers Wen Zhou Li, Nicholas Smith and Malcolm Layfield all facing allegations of sexual abuse from former pupils of the school.
Ling who currently resides in Los Angeles has rejected Greater Manchester Police’s invitation to return to the UK for questioning and now faces the prospect of formal extradition so that the allegations can be formally put to him.
Ling who is now 56 joined Chetham’s in the early 1980s and remained there until 1990. He moved to Los Angeles after a previous investigation into sexual abuse at the school ended without charges.
