Child cancer doctor admits to sexually abusing patients

Dr Myles Bradbury, a child cancer specialist at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge, has admitted to sexually abusing boys aged between eight and 17 years who were in his care.  Bradbury sexually assaulted these boys between 2009 and 2013 and made more than 16,000 indecent images.

Bradbury pleaded guilty to a total of 25 sexual offences that consisted of:

  • Six counts of sexual assault
  • 13 counts of engaging in sexual activity with a child
  • Three counts of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity
  • One count of voyeurism
  • Two counts of making indecent images of a child.

Upon leaving Cambridge Crown Court on 15 September 2014, Bradbury told reporters that he was “sorry” and refused to provide any other comments.  He has been bailed and is due to be sentenced in the near future.  Judge Gareth Hawkesworth stated that Bradbury could expect a “substantial” prison sentence and would be required to sign the sex offenders register.

A statement from Addenbrooke’s Hospital has stated it was “sickened” by the abuse and that Bradbury no longer worked for Cambridgeshire University Hospitals Trust.  Bradbury had previously worked at the hospital for five years and was suspended in November 2013 after someone complained about his behaviour.

It is understood that Addenbrooke’s Hospital has contacted families of the children that Dr Bradbury has been in contact with.

Detective Sergeant Shane Fasey has stated that:

“Bradbury’s offences were an appalling breach of trust committed against vulnerable victims who had been placed in his care … (Bradbury) carried out examinations purely for his own sexual gratification and with no medical justification whatsoever.”
