Brain Damaged Girl Wins multi-million pound Medical Negligence Compensation
Sophie Taylor, 15, of Foxgloves, Fareham in Hampshire was left with severe cerebral palsy, after her birth was delayed by doctors at St Mary’s Hospital, in Milton.
Sophie’s mother, Lynn Taylor, claimed that doctors at the hospital were negligent in their handling of the delivery and if Sophie had been born just six minutes earlier her injuries could have been avoided.
London’s High Court agreed that the hospital had in fact been negligent and the judge awarded the Sophie £5.3 million in compensation to include the cost of long term 24 hour care and modifications to their home to provide suitable living conditions for Sophie and her carers.
Speaking after the hearing Sophie’s mother said that, the money would provide security for Sophie’s long term care and allow modifications to their home which would provide suitable living conditions for Sophie and her carers.
A spokesperson for the Portsmouth NHS Trust apologised to the family and stated that the trust had taken action to improve its maternity service, to prevent any re-occurrence of this type of incident.
