Bolt Burdon Kemp’s continued support for the Association of Child Abuse Lawyers
The Association of Child Abuse Lawyers (ACAL) is an association set up for the benefit of survivors, lawyers, experts and other professionals involved in the field of obtaining compensation for the physical, sexual or emotional abuse of children and adults abused in childhood.
ACAL was set up by the leading solicitors in this field in response to the need to provide survivors with quality representation in these types of cases. ACAL is committed to the improvement of standards amongst personal injury lawyers involved in these types of compensation claims. ACAL provides excellent training for its members as well as providing survivors with direct access to solicitors that specialise in this type of work through their Panel member of accredited lawyers.
Bolt Burdon Kemp have been supporters of, and involved with, ACAL since its inception in 1998.
David McClenaghan, Partner and head of the abuse department at Bolt Burdon Kemp has been a member of the Executive Committee of ACAL for a number of years.
Rebecca Sheriff, Partner in the abuse department at Bolt Burdon Kemp, has recently been appointed as the only female solicitor to the Panel of appointed expert solicitors for ACAL in London. She has been selected as part of the Panel to provide survivors with the very best of representation in these types of cases both nationally and globally.
Rebecca has specialised in acting for survivors of abuse for over a decade. She has represented survivors in a variety of claims including those against the Ministry of Defence, local authorities, private schools and the church as well as claims against individual abusers.
Rebecca has progressed cases to trial for her clients thereby pushing the boundaries of the amount of compensation that the courts can award in these cases and establishing precedents for other child abuse lawyers to rely upon for their clients.
Rebecca says “I am delighted to be appointed to the panel to continue working alongside ACAL to provide survivors with support in obtaining justice for the abuse that they have suffered. I am committed to obtaining the maximum compensation that survivors deserve alongside closure and justice for the suffering they have experienced. As the only female solicitor on the panel in London, I am very pleased to be able to offer diversity in terms of legal representation, which some of my clients have appreciated in the past.”
