Victoria Oliver

Head of Spinal Injury

Victoria is great – she is aware of the pressure points so has good strategic focus, and she is very sympathetic to her clients.

Chambers and Partners 2025

Victoria is a Partner and Head of the Spinal Injury Team, specialising in complex spinal cord injury claims. She represents clients who have sustained life-changing injuries due to personal injury—including road traffic collisions, workplace accidents, occupiers’ liability matters, and fatal accidents—as well as clinical negligence involving NHS and private practitioners.

With extensive experience supporting clients of all ages, including children and young people, Victoria offers more than legal expertise—she delivers personal, empathetic guidance to individuals and families facing enormous physical and emotional challenges.

Her work is described as both fearless and compassionate. Victoria is recognised by Chambers and Partners 2024 as an “up and coming star” in personal injury, praised for being “very personal, empathetic with clients, and an excellent lawyer with very good judgement.” The Legal 500 2024 echoes these sentiments, describing her as “one of the most talented solicitors in the field,” known for her warmth, tactical skill and “no-nonsense manner with defendants.”

Victoria routinely secures multi-million-pound settlements for clients with paraplegic and tetraplegic injuries. Her experience includes cases involving secondary complications such as neuropathic pain, pressure ulcers, and bladder and bowel dysfunction. She also has a particular interest in spinal cord injury women’s health.

Her focus is on ensuring clients receive compensation that reflects the full scale of their losses. She is dedicated to securing early interim payments and rehabilitation, advising on property adaptations, and collaborating with case managers and care teams to establish tailored therapeutic and support regimes.

Notable case highlights include:

  • Acting on behalf of a Claimant who sustained a spinal cord injury following a road traffic accident. Victoria was able to work collaboratively with the insurers and obtain significant interim payments in excess of £500,000.  Overall settlement was agreed at £10 million to include provision for future loss of earnings, future care and accommodation and future private medical therapy costs.
  • Acting on behalf of a Claimant who underwent spinal injections for lower back pain and subsequently developed sepsis due to delay in treatment resulting in lifelong deteriorating neurological symptoms. Overall settlement was agreed at £7.3 million to provide the Claimant with the  funds they will require to maintain the best quality of life as their condition continues to change.
  • Acting on behalf of a Claimant who sustained a spinal cord injury following a road traffic accident where liability was denied and arguments of contributory negligence raised including failure to wear a seatbelt and prior knowledge that the driver had been drinking. Settlement was achieved at £3 million.
  • Acting on behalf of a Claimant who sustained a spinal cord injury and below the knee amputation following a fall at work.  Settlement was achieved at £4.5 million.
  • Achieving a lump sum settlement in excess of £3 million for a below the knee amputation as a result of a motorcycle accident.  Liability was disputed.  The settlement, which was achieved at a JSM, included provision for loss of earnings (including a significant loss of chance claim), prosthetics and future care and accommodation.

Beyond her legal practice, Victoria leads the firm’s Design the Change initiative, a biennial innovation challenge for students to create products improving life for those with spinal injuries.

Victoria is an avid supporter of several spinal injury charities; she has run the London marathon in support of the Spinal Injuries Association and regularly attends the SIA led community groups in Brighton, Southampton and Ringwood. She volunteers with Horatio’s Garden, regularly attending the garden at the National Spinal Injuries Centre at Stoke Mandeville Hospital. Victoria also supports the Youth Advisory Group at the Back Up Trust and takes a great interest in the ideas of the children and young people who attend.  Victoria is also a fan of wheelchair rugby and supports the Stoke Mandeville Maulers.
