Hema is a highly experienced and compassionate Associate Solicitor, specialising in child brain injury claims arising from personal injury and clinical negligence. Since joining Bolt Burdon Kemp in 2020, she has built a strong reputation for representing children in high-value, complex brain injury cases.
Her clients have suffered life-changing injuries in road traffic accidents, birth injury or through clinical negligence. She has represented clients who have conditions such as neonatal hypoglycaemia, cerebral abscess, and encephalitis. Hema regularly collaborates with Leading Counsel on multi-million-pound claims, ensuring her clients receive the highest level of legal representation.
Hema has been consistently recognised for her legal expertise, named a Key Lawyer in the Legal 500 in both 2022 and 2023, and described in 2024 as “a really talented associate, very bright and capable.”
Hema is known for her empathetic and family-focused approach. She prioritises early access to therapies and supports parents in reclaiming their role as caregivers —not carers. She is committed to securing early interim compensation payments to fund professional care and rehabilitation.
Working closely with brain injury case managers, she arranges tailored care and rehabilitation packages for her clients and collaborates with Court of Protection Deputies to manage large interim payments. She recently obtained an interim payment of compensation for one of her clients in the sum of £500,000. This will be used to continue funding a specialist case manager, professional care and a package of rehabilitation including speech and language therapy, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, neuropsychology, educational psychology and input from a dietician. It will also fund assistive technology, aids and equipment and rent on the family home as Hema supported her client and her family to move into privately rented accommodation that was suitable to accommodate the client’s needs. Hema has secured over £1.5 million in interim payments for this client. Her work has helped families relocate to suitably adapted homes, improving quality of life for her clients.
As an IPSEA-qualified SEN advisor, Hema represents children and young people with Special Educational Needs linked to brain injuries. She has successfully secured Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and won appeals in the First Tier SEND Tribunal, ensuring her clients receive the support they need in school.
Hema actively supports brain injury charities including CBIT, Peeps, and Cerebra, contributing to fundraising and awareness efforts.
Hema speaks conversational Gujarati, enabling her to connect with a wider range of families and communities.
