Getting in the Game: A Day with the Stoke Mandeville Maulers
This month the Spinal Injury Team at Bolt Burdon Kemp had the incredible opportunity to step out of our usual roles and onto the court – joining the Stoke Mandeville Maulers for a day of wheelchair rugby.
From the moment we arrived, the energy was palpable. The day started with a (very basic!) explanation of the rules and some drills to get us warmed up. Then we were thrown into the action alongside seasoned players, and let’s just say we’ve got the bruises to prove it. Wheelchair rugby is fast, intense, and seriously physical. It’s also an eye-opener. Beyond the excitement of the game itself, what made the day truly special was hearing directly from the players. They shared their personal journeys – how wheelchair rugby has not only helped them build strength and resilience, but also offered a community, a purpose, and a sense of empowerment after spinal cord injury. It truly is a life-changing sport.
At Bolt Burdon Kemp, we’re incredibly proud to continue sponsoring the Stoke Mandeville Maulers. Supporting them goes far beyond funding – it’s about standing beside a team that exemplifies courage, camaraderie, and determination.
We left our day with a few sore muscles and a whole lot of admiration. Thanks to the Maulers for letting us be part of your world – even if just for a day. We’ll be cheering you on, on and off the court.
