East Sussex nursery worker jailed for sexually abusing children under his care

A former nursery worker and babysitter has been jailed for sexual offences against children.

Andrew Evans, 36, has been sentenced to 14 years and four months in prison for sexually abusing two children whilst employed at the nursery in Crowborough, East Sussex.

Evans was already serving a six-year and eight-month prison sentence for unrelated offences when the new allegations emerged.

He was sentenced in 2022 and while in custody, further accusations emerged from children who had attended the nursery.

He was subsequently charged with two counts of penetration of a girl under 13, one count of sexual assault by touching a girl under 13, and one count of assault by penetration of a boy under 13.

Evans pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced at Hove Crown Court to 14 years and four months in prison, with an additional four years and eight months to be served on extended licence.

We are deeply saddened by this profound betrayal of trust. If you or someone you know has experienced abuse by Evans or anyone else, please don’t hesitate to reach out for support and advice.
