Drayton Manor ride operator admits sexually assaulting 19 girls

A former ride operator at Drayton Manor Theme Park has pleaded guilty to 19 child sexual offences after sexually assaulting girls under the age of 13 at the theme park.

Josef Luke Hammond, 24, worked at the Staffordshire theme park between March and August 2024. He appeared at Stafford Crown Court on 12 October 2026 and admitted assaulting 19 girls aged under 13 by touching. His sentencing is due to take place on 11 December 2026.

Hammond first came to the attention of police in August 2024 after a girl told her parent that he had touched her inappropriately. The concern was raised with theme park staff, who reviewed CCTV footage and sent Hammond home. Police were informed and arrested him that day.

Detective Inspector Vanessa Furnival commended the bravery of the victims in the case for coming forward. She has encouraged any parents or guardians who think their child may have been a victim to contact the police directly.

Coming forward about abuse can be extremely difficult. Anyone affected should be given the time, support and opportunity to seek advice when they feel ready.

I am pleased to see the concerns raised were acted upon swiftly. It is vital that allegations of child sexual abuse are taken seriously and appropriate action is taken to protect children and hold perpetrators accountable.

A criminal conviction can be an important step towards justice for survivors of abuse. It may also provide valuable evidence in support of a civil claim for compensation.

At Bolt Burdon Kemp, we understand how distressing it can be for parents or guardians to discover their child may have experienced abuse. We are here to listen, offer sensitive and compassionate guidance, and help you understand the legal options available to your child, including whether a claim for compensation may be possible.
