The Penguin Lessons author investigated by Dorset Police for child sex abuse

Famous author Mike Thompson is being investigated by police after he was accused of sexually abusing former pupils at Truro School in Cornwall and the Old Malthouse School in Dorset.

Thompson, who is known as the author of The Penguin Lessons under his pen name, Tom Michell, worked as a teacher at the schools in the Seventies and Eighties.

Thompson initially taught at the Old Malthouse before being dismissed for reasons that have not been confirmed. He later moved to teach at Truro School.

Thompson denies all allegations of wrongdoing, which first emerged last month in a Channel 4 News investigation when three former pupils said he sexually abused them during their time at school.

Up to eleven individuals have now come forward with similar allegations, sparking a Dorset Police investigation.

This is a testament to the courage of these former students to report abuse, and I hope that any other survivors of sexual abuse will feel empowered to come forward. Sexual abuse is a crime and can be reported to the police at any time – it is never too late to seek justice and accountability.

Childhood sexual abuse can have lasting impacts on survivors, including on their mental health, education, career, and personal relationships.
