Rhicha Kapila

Rhicha was formerly head of the military team at Bolt Burdon Kemp, however she took up a new and exciting opportunity as Chief Operations Officer of the firm to expand upon her management skills.  In her new role, Rhicha is responsible for: designing and implementing the firm’s infrastructure and business operations, establishing policies that promote BBKs values and overseeing the firm’s operations whilst co-ordinating the practice management team.

Since joining Bolt Burdon Kemp in 2012, she has developed a dedicated practice in representing service personnel, veterans and their families in bringing personal injury and clinical negligence claims.  She understands the very unique culture of life in the military and the effect it has, on not only personnel, but also their families.  The Legal 500 (2019), a leading legal directory, describes Rhicha as:

“a great fighter” and “all-round good lawyer”

Rhicha has successfully spearheaded high profile litigation against the Ministry of Defence (MoD), including the terrifying military aviation ‘Voyager’ incident, which resulted in a vast number of passengers suffering with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.  She has a strong interest in mental health related claims and is a passionate advocate for ending the stigma faced by veterans who suffer with this illness in silence.

She has significant experience in personal injury claims involving non freezing cold injuries, training accidents, defective work equipment, sexual assaults, stress at work and fatal accident claims.  Rhicha has a proven track record in successfully winning clinical negligence claims against the MoD to include delays in diagnosing: compartment syndrome, PTSD, testicular cancer, tuberculosis and other very serious health conditions.

Rhicha was elected as Secretary of the APIL Military Specialist Group in 2015, and subsequently took up the post of Co-ordinator in 2018.

  • After being offered £10,000 by the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme for my injury I contacted BKK for their help.  Rhicha took on my case and from the onset I felt assured that I had the very best person representing me.  Standing by me every step of the way there was never a moment where I didn’t know what was going on.  Every development in the case was explained in a way that was straight forward and easy to understand. I am especially grateful for the emotional support and understanding Rhicha gave to me during the most sensitive and traumatic parts of the case; my welfare was put before anything else.  Often ringing Rhicha out of hours, she would always answer with kind words, reassurance and empathy. Rhicha’s pure professionalism and expert knowledge, without a doubt won me this case against the MOD.  Settling at a JSM for a life changing amount, that would not have been achieved without her. If I was in the unfortunate position to go through this process again, BKK and in particular, Rhicha Kapila would be my first choice and I would highly recommend her services.

Its been a pleasure and I'm very happy that I was pointed in the direction of Bolt Burdon Kemp.

  • My journey started with the company over two years ago. My husband was unfortunately killed while serving in the British Army and was killed by American soldier in non conflict of war. I approached Rhicha  who not only was very caring and compassionate regarding my husband’s death she was amazingly on the ball with no detail left unturned. The team I was appointed was the best team I could of used to take the challenge on and believe me every corner was a huge hurdle . Even when there was issues with my case they didn’t give up on me and my family . Words will never express how greatful I will always be for the hard work and dedication to myself and my children . After every challenging corner that was turned due to the complexity of the case they battled on the fight and we Won . I honestly can never praise the company and the amazing staff for there hard work and dedication and could not praise the company or Recommend them enough 5* the whole time thank you from the bottom of mine and my children’s heart .
