Rhicha Kapila

Rhicha is head of the firm’s Military department and a partner at Bolt Burdon Kemp.

Since joining Bolt Burdon Kemp in 2012, she has developed a dedicated practice in representing service personnel, veterans and their families in bringing personal injury and clinical negligence claims.  She understands the very unique culture of life in the military and the effect it has, on not only personnel, but also their families.  The Legal 500 (2018), a leading legal directory, describes Rhicha as:

Hard hitting and determined”

“Extremely driven, able and effective”

Rhicha has successfully spearheaded high profile litigation against the Ministry of Defence (MoD), including the terrifying military aviation ‘Voyager’ incident, which resulted in a vast number of passengers suffering with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.  She has a strong interest in mental health related claims and is a passionate advocate for ending the stigma faced by veterans who suffer with this illness in silence.

She has significant experience in personal injury claims involving non freezing cold injuries, training accidents, defective work equipment, sexual assaults, stress at work and fatal accident claims.  Rhicha has a proven track record in successfully winning clinical negligence claims against the MoD to include delays in diagnosing: compartment syndrome, PTSD, testicular cancer, tuberculosis and other very serious health conditions.

Rhicha is an active supporter of BLESMA, Combat Stress and other like-minded military charities whose work she finds is of immense value to her clients and other veterans alike.  She advocates for a holistic approach to rehabilitation and is committed to ensuring that long term funding is in place for her clients to meet their lifelong rehabilitation needs.

Rhicha was successfully elected, and has retained the role of, Secretary of the APIL Military Group since 2015, and as of 2018 was elected to Coordinator of this specialist interest Group.  She is an active member of Forces Law, a national network of lawyers who specialise in advising service personnel about their legal rights.  Rhicha is a regular contributor to military publications and is frequently invited to comment on issues affecting the military by the national press.

  • Just want to say a big thank you for all the time and effort you have put into this case for me. I probably wasn't this easiest person to work with due to being away etc and again I thank you for your patience. Its been a pleasure and I'm very happy that I was pointed in the direction of Bolt Burdon Kemp.

  • Rhicha and her whole team gave exceptional service.

  • After being offered £10,000 by the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme for my injury I contacted BKK for their help.  Rhicha took on my case and from the onset I felt assured that I had the very best person representing me.  Standing by me every step of the way there was never a moment where I didn’t know what was going on.  Every development in the case was explained in a way that was straight forward and easy to understand. I am especially grateful for the emotional support and understanding Rhicha gave to me during the most sensitive and traumatic parts of the case; my welfare was put before anything else.  Often ringing Rhicha out of hours, she would always answer with kind words, reassurance and empathy. Rhicha’s pure professionalism and expert knowledge, without a doubt won me this case against the MOD.  Settling at a JSM for a life changing amount, that would not have been achieved without her. If I was in the unfortunate position to go through this process again, BKK and in particular, Rhicha Kapila would be my first choice and I would highly recommend her services.

  • “...thank you for the outstanding work you did for me. Words cannot give my appreciation justice. You were superbly efficient and professional. Your foresight on all matters on my case was truly remarkable. I owe the success and victory of my case to your dedication and perseverance...”
