Supporting bereaved military families: our collaboration with Scotty’s Little Soldiers

This collaboration reflects our shared commitment to ensuring that families affected by military bereavement are met with appropriate support, understanding and long-term assistance.

Scotty’s first came to my attention through a client I represented, who spoke movingly about the support she and her children received during one of the most difficult periods of their lives following the loss of her husband and the father of their two children.

She described the comfort and respite provided by Scotty’s holiday homes, which allowed the family to step away from their day-to-day environment and begin to process their grief in a calmer, more supportive setting. She also shared that her children received additional support around significant dates throughout the year, which offered reassurance and comfort during moments that were particularly difficult.

The loss of a loved one who has served their country has a profound and lasting impact on the whole family, often reshaping daily life in ways that are both emotional and practical. Families can face not only grief, but also the challenge of adjusting to life without the person at the centre of their world.

As a charity embedded within the military community, Scotty’s Little Soldiers understands these unique challenges. They work to ensure that bereaved military families are not left feeling isolated or overlooked, but instead remain part of a supportive and understanding community.

Their support extends far beyond immediate bereavement care. Through long-term, holistic programmes, Scotty’s helps families navigate life after loss, offering stability, connection and hope at a time when these can feel out of reach.
