Standing alongside the naval community: BBK partners with the Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity

Bolt Burdon Kemp is proud to announce a new partnership with the Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC), the principal charity of the Royal Navy.

The RNRMC exists to support sailors, Royal Marines and their families throughout their lives. Its work reaches across the naval community, providing support during service, through periods of injury and recovery, and during the transition to civilian life.

For our Military Claims team, this partnership represents something deeply important: standing alongside the Armed Forces community not only when legal assistance is needed, but throughout the wider journey of recovery and rehabilitation.

Understanding the realities of Service life

Service in the Royal Navy or Royal Marines asks a great deal of individuals and their families. Time away from home, demanding working environments and the physical and psychological pressures of military life can have consequences that continue long after a person’s service has ended.

When someone is injured or becomes unwell, the effect is rarely confined to the injury itself. It may threaten a career built over many years, affect financial security or alter someone’s role within their family. For those who are medically discharged, the loss of routine, purpose and identity associated with military life can make an already difficult recovery more challenging.

Families often carry part of that burden too. They may become carers, manage financial uncertainty or support a loved one through a difficult transition while also adjusting to a very different future themselves. It’s clear that effective support must recognise this wider reality.

Rehabilitation is about rebuilding a life

Rehabilitation is sometimes understood solely in terms of medical treatment. In practice, meaningful rehabilitation is much broader.

It may include physiotherapy, psychological treatment, specialist equipment or adaptations to someone’s home. It can also mean vocational support, assistance with the transition to civilian employment, rebuilding confidence and helping families adjust to changed circumstances.

Recovery is rarely straightforward or linear. Progress can be accompanied by setbacks and uncertainty, particularly where an injury has affected someone’s independence or brought a military career to an unexpected end. Access to consistent, informed support can make an enormous difference during that process.

The RNRMC supports recovery and rehabilitation across the naval community, alongside its wider work supporting families, wellbeing and those experiencing hardship. This reflects an important principle: nobody who has served should be expected to rebuild their life alone.

At BBK, we act for serving personnel and veterans who have suffered serious physical or psychological injuries connected with their military service.

Legal action can provide accountability and financial security, but compensation should not be regarded simply as an award of money. Used properly, it can help someone access specialist treatment, care, equipment and rehabilitation. It may protect a family from the financial consequences of a career-ending injury or fund retraining and support greater independence.

Our role also extends beyond the legal process. Understanding military life allows us to recognise the pressures our clients and their families may be facing and to connect them with organisations that can provide additional practical and emotional support.

This is why relationships between specialist legal teams, military charities and the wider recovery community matter. No single organisation can provide every element of support someone may need. Working together creates a stronger network around serving personnel, veterans and their families.

A partnership grounded in commitment

Supporting the Armed Forces community is deeply important to me, both personally and professionally. Having been part of a military family, I understand that the sacrifices associated with service life are not made by personnel alone.

I am therefore incredibly proud that BBK is partnering with the RNRMC. Sailors, Royal Marines, veterans and their families deserve support from people who understand the realities of service life and who are committed to standing alongside them when it matters.

This partnership reflects our determination to support the naval community during service and long after it has ended. It also provides an opportunity to strengthen relationships, raise awareness and help ensure that those facing injury, rehabilitation or transition know that support is available.

The Armed Forces community gives a great deal in service of this country. Through our partnership with the RNRMC, we are proud to play our part in supporting that community and helping its members rebuild their lives with dignity, security and hope.
