Sonita is Head of Public Affairs and a Partner at Bolt Burdon Kemp. She works closely with Managing Partner Jonathan Wheeler and the heads of each practice area. She and her team are responsible for communication of the vital work the firm carries out through the firm’s online presence, press relations, campaigns, political engagement, charity partnerships and social media communications.
The people who work at Bolt Burdon Kemp are dedicated to improving the lives of not just their clients, but all people who have experienced serious injury. Sonita ensures that any campaigns to effect positive change and raise awareness are heard by the outside world. Sonita set up the firm’s Social Justice Group, which brings people together from across the firm to discuss areas they are passionate about, to help amplify their efforts by drawing on the diverse experience across the firm, to good effect.
BBK regularly respond to government consultations affecting seriously injured people. Sonita coordinates the firm’s response to these consultations, putting together the right team of people across the firm to ensure the most authoritative voices from the firm speak out on their specialist subjects. To date, the firm have responded to consultations or calls for evidence including the birth trauma inquiry, mandatory reporting of child sexual abuse, the treatment of women in the armed forces, and the acquired brain injury consultation.
The firm dedicates a great deal of time to supporting charities whose work aligns with the firms’, helping improve the lives of seriously injured people and their families. Sonita’s team supports those relationships and helps ensure that these strategic partnerships deliver the maximum impact for the benefit of individuals and their families.
Sonita joined BBK in 2010. She is a qualified solicitor who specialised in the field of professional negligence and she worked at the firm for 6 years before moving into this area – which plays to her strengths as both a solicitor and a campaigner for social justice.
Sonita sits on the firm’s practice management team, who collectively manage the team’s responsible for the firm’s internal operations and infrastructure.
