Your story, Your voice: Five x More Black Maternity Experiences Survey 2025
On Wednesday 7th February Five X More launched their Black Maternity Experiences Survey. This will be the second time they have run this survey.
Five X More
Five X More was founded by Clo and Tinuke. The campaign was started due to Tinuke’s experience of giving birth to her son in 2017.
The name originated from the MBRRACE studies in 2019 that found Black women were five times more likely to die during childbirth. Since the report in 2019 Black women are still 3.7 times more likely to die than white women in childbirth.
At the end of last year, we attended the APPG on Black Maternal Health, which is run by Five X More. We know through the work with our clients the serious health inequalities those from the black community face and we will continue to support and promote the work of campaign groups including Five X More.
The survey
The survey is open to those identify as Black or Black-mixed heritage. It is specifically for those who are currently pregnant, or have been pregnant and given birth since July 2021, and have accessed their maternity care through the NHS.
The survey is an online questionnaire which will ask about your personal experiences, but these will remain anonymous. Five X more have explained that the findings from this survey will be used to inform a report to advocate for improvements in maternity care and specifically to raise awareness about Black maternal health inequalities in the UK.
How can you get involved?
You can read the full details of the survey here. If you are a black women who has given birth since 2021 or is currently pregnant we would encourage you to submit your views.
