Witness appeal following abuse by ex-Sea Cadet leader Paul Vaughan

We act for a client who was sexually abused by former Sea Cadet leader Paul Vaughan in the early 1980s on sailing trips in North Wales.

Paul Vaughan appeared before Mold Crown Court on 27 March 2026 and pleaded guilty to 15 counts, which included;

  • Four counts of gross indecency with a boy under the age of 14
  • Three counts of inciting a boy under 14 years of age to commit an act of gross indecency
  • Eight counts of indecent assault on a boy under the age of 14 years

Vaughan will be sentenced at Caernarfon on 8 May.

Vaughan is already serving a 10-and-a-half-year sentence after admitting seven counts of indecent assault and indecency with a child in 2023. This is also related to the abuse of boys in his care in the 1970s and 1980s whilst he was a Sea Cadet leader.

We are appealing for any witnesses who may be able to assist with our investigation, particularly those who attended the sailing trips on Llyn Tegid, also known as Lake Bala.

If you, or anyone you know, has any information that may assist in this case, please contact me directly by email alancollins@bbkllp.co.uk or phone 020 7288 4802.
