Paedophile jailed, aged 70, for historic abuse against young girls
In a powerful reminder that justice has no expiration date, William Thompson, 70, has been sentenced to 13 years in prison after being found guilty of historic sexual offences against two young girls.
Thompson’s abuse spanned several years in the early 2000s, but it only entered the public sphere when his victims, now adults, found the strength to speak out.
He was arrested in 2021 but consistently denied the allegations. His case went to trial at Huntingdon Law Courts in August, and the jury found him guilty of five offences, including:
- Three counts of causing or inciting a girl under 13 to engage in sexual activity
- Two counts of assaulting a girl under 13 by touching
On 14 November, at the same court, Thompson, of Gunthorpe, Peterborough, was sentenced to 13 years in prison.
