BBK’s 2025 Staff Coaching Initiative
We know that working in law can be difficult at times, as well as incredibly rewarding – especially as we specialise in supporting some of the most seriously injured individuals through traumatic periods in their lives. Our people’s mental health is a priority for us and we encourage regular conversations with managers and have full mental health cover through our benefits. However, sometimes that isn’t enough to overcome certain issues faced by staff.
Listening to feedback from staff about how the work and life demands can clash, or how the ability to manage a difficult piece of work can sometimes be too much; we knew we needed to offer an accessible solution to support these issues, as and when they crop up. Common wellbeing options don’t always ‘hit the mark’ and in some cases are really just lip service to employees’ needs. We wanted something practical. Since April, in partnership with Pop Up Coaching , we have been able to offer monthly drop in coaching sessions for all staff members – regardless of their level or role in the firm.
Workplace coaching is a powerful tool that helps individuals grow, teams thrive, and organisations succeed. More importantly it creates a space to discuss and work through personal development needs or concerns in a safe and productive way.
Coaching is collaborative. It is goal-focused and through conversation allows people to acknowledge, identify and overcome their challenges. We know that our employees have lots of hats to wear during the day – they are not just employed at BBK, they have families, homes, and health matters (to name a few) that sit alongside their ambitions, to-do lists and clients, all of which can be difficult to manage within the busy life of a lawyer or business support professional.
We knew we wanted to find a way to empower staff to identify where they needed extra support, to give them space to talk and to be listened to by someone who is outside their management, to build their confidence and resilience, and ultimately support their working life at BBK. One employee reported back to say: ‘I personally found my coaching session to be an insightful, reassuring, motivating and judgement-free experience. I wanted to discuss a long-standing issue that has impacted me personally and professionally and my coach was excellent at helping me get to the heart of the situation and providing me with helpful tools to manage my response. I would recommend coaching to anyone!’
This employee quote is just one of several we have received that highlights the benefits of the coaching programme we have introduced.
We have been amazed by the buy-in from staff, from our most junior members to our Partners who have been quick to take the opportunity to work with our experienced coaches who can help guide them to address their areas of need.
Bridget Adams at Pop Up Coaching says, “It’s such a pleasure to partner with BBK. From the very beginning, it was clear that this wasn’t just another wellbeing benefit, it’s all about supporting BBK to cultivate a positive emotional workplace culture. Through our regular one-to-one coaching sessions, we’re creating a space where people can hit pause, reflect, and work through their challenges and aspirations in a way that feels supportive, practical, and human.”
I am signed up for January…I can’t wait!
