BBK and Fighting With Pride team up for FRS advice
Towards the end of last year, the Government announced the long-awaited LGBT Financial Recognition Scheme (FRS). This scheme enables those impacted by the ban on LGBT personnel serving in HM Armed Forces, between 27 July 1967 and 11 January 2000, to apply for recognition payments. To support these individuals, we have worked with the LGBT+ veterans charity Fighting With Pride to produce an advice leaflet for those impacted, detailing who is eligible for the scheme, how to apply, and how much financial support veterans may be entitled to.
The FRS is by no means perfect. However, legal remedies beyond the scheme are limited, and this scheme does provide veterans affected by the LGBT ban with a level of recognition and reparation. We caution any veteran to take legal advice before embarking on litigation, which can be an expensive and stressful process.
I want to thank Fighting With Pride for their support in the creation of this leaflet; they are a charity that works tirelessly to support their members. This is important work, and we are very proud to be a part of this.
If you are planning on making an application or wish to find out more, do read through the leaflet, or contact Fighting With Pride with any further questions.
