Map reveals the extent of Scout leader convictions for child sex offences

For decades, young children joined the Scouts in the hope of experiencing new adventures and exploring the big outdoors. But instead, many endured horrific sexual abuse at the hands of Scout leaders and those in positions of responsibility at the Scouts.

Over the past few years, the sheer extent of the Scout abuse scandal has become clear. Scout leaders from all over the UK have been convicted of child sex offences and with each jail sentence, new abuse stories have come to light.

So, to highlight just how many sexual offences have been committed by those involved with the Scouts Association, we have created an interactive map. Our easy-to-navigate visualisation shows all known UK sex offenders connected to the Scouts up until June 2023 – along with information on each case.

How to use our interactive map

Explore the map below to discover information on over 250 sex offenders who have been involved in the Scout movement. Click on each pin-point to find information about:

  • The location of the Scout group or, where that is unknown, the last-known location of the offender
  • The name of the Scout group connected to the offender
  • The period of abuse
  • Details of the offender’s conviction and sentence length where known

You can also find out if a conviction has happened near you, using our search function.

Have you experienced sexual abuse at the hands of a Scout leader?

Did you experience sexual abuse when you were a member of the Scouts? If so, you are not alone. We created this map to show the extent of child sexual abuse carried out by those involved with the Scouts and to give survivors the courage to come forward and speak out.

If you have been affected, it is important to get the help and support you need and not to suffer alone.
