Patients of Surrey cancer doctor Paul Miller urged to seek legal advice

Letters have been sent to more than 1,000 patients treated by Mr Paul Miller, after concerns were raised about treatment that he provided between 2006 and December 2013. Paul Miller worked as a Consultant Urologist, and he treated bladder and prostate cancer patients.

The alarm was raised by Mr Miller’s colleagues in November last year. An investigation was then carried out by The Royal College of Surgeons, which found that “serious significant harm” had come to 27 patients as a result of the treatment they received under Mr Miller’s care. It has been reported that a total of 1,200 bladder and prostate cancer patients may have been affected.

The General Medical Council (GMC) has placed restrictions upon Mr Miller’s ability to practise as a doctor whilst investigations are carried out. This means that Mr Miller is not currently allowed to treat urological cancer patients.

Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust has apologised to the patients who received poor care, and has confirmed that Mr Miller has been dismissed from his post. He worked at East Surrey Hospital, and the Spire Gatwick Park Hospital.

This news will no doubt be shocking and extremely worrying for cancer patients treated by Mr Miller.
