Paul McGinn is a Partner in Bolt Burdon Kemp’s Abuse Claims Team. He is an experienced litigator with 20 years’ experience in personal injury litigation, having trained with and worked for two Top 20 law firms in Manchester. Paul now uses that expertise to support survivors of abuse in seeking compensation, accountability and meaningful redress.
Supporting survivors of abuse
Paul brings valuable insight from his previous work in defendant litigation and with insurance companies. This gives him a strong understanding of how organisations and insurers approach abuse and personal injury claims, which he uses to help build robust cases and achieve the best possible outcomes for his clients.
Specialist experience in complex abuse claims
Paul has experience across abuse claims, complex injury claims, secondary victim claims and fatal accident claims. He has worked on high-value cases worth up to £5 million, including claims involving complex psychiatric injury, vicarious liability and vulnerable clients.
His particular focus is on helping survivors of abuse pursue civil compensation claims and, where possible, wider forms of redress such as apologies, acknowledgements and answers. Paul understands that compensation is only one part of the process for many survivors, and he works with care and sensitivity to help clients feel heard and supported throughout their claim.
Work with survivor organisations and online abuse claims
Paul is currently working with The National Association for People Abused in Childhood (NAPAC) to help further its strategy and aims in supporting survivors of abuse. He also has a particular interest in claims involving abuse committed online, or cases where online platforms, social media or artificial intelligence have played a role. This is an evolving area, and Paul is keen to explore how the law can better respond to the risks faced by survivors in digital spaces.
Advocacy and cross-jurisdictional experience
Paul is a qualified Solicitor-Advocate, which allows him to conduct advocacy on behalf of his clients and provide a more rounded service throughout the litigation process. He is also dual-qualified in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
