Prestigious music conductor charged with child sexual offences
World-renowned classical music conductor Jan Latham-Koenig has been charged with child sexual offences.
Latham-Koenig, 70, who has conducted the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and was awarded an OBE in 2020, was arrested at London’s Victoria station on Wednesday.
He appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court today, Friday January 12, charged with facilitating a child sex offence and sexual communication with a child.
He spoke only to confirm his name and the case was adjourned until February 9.
Given Latham-Koenig’s prestigious reputation, the charge will come as a shock to many.
We don’t know the details of this case and Latham-Koenig has not been convicted, but I would like to use this opportunity to urge anyone who believes they have been a victim of sexual abuse – whether recently or in childhood – to get in contact with BBK for a confidential chat about your legal options.
Reporting the abuse to the police is almost always the first port of call for pursuing justice, but you may also be entitled to financial compensation.
I am a solicitor in the abuse department and together with my colleagues we have years of experience working with and supporting survivors of abuse to help them to speak out about their experiences and to obtain the closure that they deserve.
An award for compensation in the civil courts can help individuals pay for the treatment that they need to help move on from the abuse and to rebuild their lives in other ways.
If you have experienced abuse and you are unsure about your legal options, please don’t hesitate to contact me for free, no-obligation advice on your legal rights.
