PCSO Simon Smith jailed for using his position to pursue sexual relationships with women
Humberside Police PCSO Simon Smith has been jailed for two years and ten months at Hull Crown Court for misconduct in public office and perverting the course of justice.
The Court heard how Smith would use his role as PCSO to pursue sexual relationships with women whilst on duty or by providing his personal telephone number to a woman with the ultimate aim of engaging in a sexual relationship with her.
Judge John Thackray QC stated that all the offences were “committed in [his] position as a serving police community support officer with Humberside Police and in circumstances where the complainants were entitled to consider that, in relation to [his] contact with them, [he] would behave properly and appropriately towards them in the discharge of [his] responsibilities.”
Recognising the gravity of Smith’s offending, Judge Thackray QC stated that only an immediate custodial sentence was appropriate. He observed that Smith had a long history of abusing his position as a police employee to commence sexual relationships whilst lying about his marital status.
Humberside Police have confirmed that a hearing in respect of gross misconduct will be arranged in due course.
