Hastings teacher Roland Simmons convicted of abuse

Former teacher Roland Simmons has been found guilty of sexually assaulting children at a residential home in the 1970s.

Simmons worked as a teacher at Guestling House in Hastings, East Sussex, and committed the offences against four boys who had been placed in care at the home.

The 77‑year‑old was convicted at Lewes Crown Court on Tuesday 21 April of 10 counts of indecent assault on a male. He will be sentenced on 22 June.

This is yet another example of an individual who was meant to be looking after young people abusing their position in the worst possible way. We know it takes survivors a huge amount of courage to come forward after so many years, and it is down to their bravery that justice is finally being served.

We represent several survivors of abuse by teachers in the Sussex and Kent region. If you have experienced abuse and want to discuss your legal options safely and confidentially, our specialist team is ready to support and offer guidance.

We’re committed to providing clear, compassionate support to survivors of abuse.
