Ex-Lancing College teacher sentenced over child sex offences
A former private school teacher who shared images of his students with paedophiles has been sentenced.
Nick Baldock, 46, of West Sussex, pleaded guilty to multiple child sex offences and sharing personal data of pupils.
Baldock, who previously worked at Lancing College, was initially arrested in July 2022 when he sexually assaulted a teenage boy. Following the incident, Baldock contacted the boy, presenting an apology, which later escalated with inappropriate sexual comments involving younger boys. was sentenced on October 24, 2024, after
During its investigation, Sussex Police seized Baldock’s digital devices, uncovering several indecent images of children. Among these were Category A images, the most severe in classification, though none involved students from Lancing College.
Communication records on messaging apps further revealed that Baldock had shared non-indecent images of students, obtained from the school database, with individuals who expressed similar sexual interests.
The charges against Baldock included sexual assault, two counts of publishing obscene materials, and data privacy violations. Specifically, he faced three counts related to disclosing pupil data without consent, impacting six students at the college. His charges also covered three instances of making indecent images of minors unrelated to the school.
Baldock was sentenced to a 12-month prison term, suspended for 24 months at Hove Crown Court on 24th October 2024. As part of the sentence, he will be required to register as a sex offender and will remain under a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for eight years, restricting his interactions with minors and access to digital devices.
Detective Sergeant Paul Hitchcock of Sussex Police’s Online Child Abuse Team (OCAT) said: “Nick Baldock’s pattern of behaviour shows a clear, sexual interest in young boys that he acted upon physically and online.
“Not only was his offending a betrayal of his responsibility to protect the children under his care, he also showed a callous disregard for the child victims who appeared in his indecent photographs.
“Thanks to the victim of the initial sexual assault, and the support of Lancing College, we were able to uncover the scale of Baldock’s offending and bring him to justice.
“The Sexual Harm Prevention Order severely limits Baldock’s ability to harm other young people, and I hope provides some measure of comfort for his victims.”
