Emma and Megan run the London Landmarks Half Marathon for SARSAS

When you’re running a long race and the pain and doubts start to creep in, the best way to keep going is to remind yourself why you’re doing it.

For us, at the London Landmarks Half Marathon, it was to raise awareness and funds for a cause that means so much to us both here at Bolt Burdon Kemp.

We represent survivors of sexual abuse in bringing claims for compensation, so we were incredibly proud to be raising money for Somerset and Avon Rape and Sexual Abuse Support. SARSAS is a charity that provides specialist support to individuals affected by sexual violence and abuse. Their work includes counselling, support services, and advocacy, helping survivors navigate what can often be an incredibly difficult and isolating experience.

So when the going got tough on Sunday 12 April, we reminded ourselves of the vital work our run will fund – supporting individuals through recovery, and empowering survivors to find their voice and seek justice.

We’re so glad we took part, because what an unforgettable experience the London Landmarks Half Marathon turned out to be!

From the moment we arrived, there was a real buzz in the air. The sun was shining, which already felt like a win, and the streets were lined with crowds of supporters, choirs and DJs. The energy was incredible: people cheering, music playing, and runners all around us sharing the same mix of nerves and excitement.

That’s not to say the day was completely stress-free. There was a bit of last-minute panic when we saw the toilet queues and how far the bag drop was, but once we got going, all of the pre-race anxiety faded into the background.

As we made our way through the course we really tried to take in the landmarks, the atmosphere, and the emotion of the day.

Seeing familiar faces along the route made such a difference. Our friends had come out to support us, armed with brilliant makeshift signs and plenty of encouragement, and spotting them in the crowd gave us such a boost when we needed it most.

Running just over 13 miles is no mean feat, but we’re incredibly proud to say that we raised £1,177 for SARSAS.

Crossing the finish line was an amazing feeling. Both of us felt a real mix of relief, pride, and a sense of achievement all rolled into one. And of course, we couldn’t end the day without a well-earned glass (or two) of prosecco afterwards to celebrate our accomplishments!

All in all, it was a day full of challenges, emotion and positivity. We’re so grateful to everyone who supported us, whether by donating, cheering us on, or simply following our journey. It truly made all the difference.
