Emma is a Senior Solicitor in the Abuse Team, having joined the team in May 2019.  She specialises in bringing claims on behalf of survivors of child abuse.

Emma completed her training at a large national firm where she acted exclusively on behalf of claimants.  She has dealt with child abuse claims against social services, individual abusers and religious institutions as well as against schools and local authorities.  Emma prioritises client care and has received positive feedback for her tenacity and commitment to her clients’ claims.

Before beginning her career in law, Emma worked as a children’s nursery nurse, caring for children aged six  months to four years.  Her role as a nursery nurse inspired her interest in child protection, having spent several years on the front lines in detecting signs of physical and sexual abuse and neglect of children.  Emma is particularly passionate about child safeguarding and the importance of educating children about consent and bodily autonomy from an early age.

Emma is the secretary of the APIL Junior Litigators Group, which provides a platform for junior lawyers for learning and discussion about various legal issues relevant to their everyday practice.

Emma studied Law at King’s College, London, where in her spare time she campaigned against sexual harassment and assault on campus and engaged in social mobility programs in local schools.  She won the Serjeants’ Inn Chambers Medical Law prize for her dissertation on the threat to safe, free and legal access to abortion in the UK.  Emma went on to complete her Legal Practice Course at the University of Law, in which she gained a distinction.
