Emma Ferguson

Emma is a Solicitor in the Abuse Team, having joined the team in May 2019. She specialises in bringing claims on behalf of survivors of child abuse.

Emma completed her training at a large national firm where she acted exclusively on behalf of claimants. She has dealt with child abuse claims against social services, individual abusers and religious institutions as well as against schools and local authorities. Emma prioritises client care and has received positive feedback for her tenacity and commitment to her clients’ claims.

Before beginning her career in law, Emma worked as a children’s nursery nurse, caring for children aged six  months to four years. Her role as a nursery nurse inspired her interest in child protection, having spent several years on the front lines in detecting signs of physical and sexual abuse and neglect of children.  Emma is particularly passionate about child safeguarding and the importance of educating children about consent and bodily autonomy from an early age.

Emma is the secretary of the APIL Junior Litigators Group, which provides a platform for junior lawyers for learning and discussion about various legal issues relevant to their everyday practice.

Emma studied Law at King’s College, London, where in her spare time she campaigned against sexual harassment and assault on campus and engaged in social mobility programs in local schools. She won the Serjeants’ Inn Chambers Medical Law prize for her dissertation on the threat to safe, free and legal access to abortion in the UK. Emma went on to complete her Legal Practice Course at the University of Law, in which she gained a distinction.

  • I lost my son in the most devastating way in a road traffic accident.  He was 16 years old.  I got in touch with Ben Pepper at Bolt Burton Kemp.  From the first conversation with Ben I felt so comfortable.  He guided me through every step of the civil claim.  I was never left wondering what was going on.  He also offered me support through my grief, listening to my sadness on the phone.  I cannot thank Ben and the whole team at Bolt Burton Kemp enough for their hard work and constant determination to resolve my claim.  Thank you to you all.  I would highly recommend them.  Thank you again.

  • My expectations were exceeded in the way I was treated throughout the whole process and the empathy shown by all at Bolt Burdon Kemp.  The level of understanding was very reassuring.  The level of kindness and patience Kathleen Hallisey expressed was far beyond expectations.

  • Joseph and Rebecca were both great.  They really supported me throughout this difficult process.  Joseph was very responsive and always kept me in the loop the whole time – he really empowered me to face my abuser in court face to face.
