I am absolutely delighted to have been invited to speak, at this year’s prestigious TEDxUCL Women’s 2015 ‘Momentum’ event.

TED is a non profit organization devoted to ‘Ideas Worth Spreading’. TED conferences invite the world’s leading thinkers and doers to speak for 18 minutes or less. The talks are filmed and many of them are then made available, free, at TED.com

TEDx Talks support individuals or groups in hosting local, self organized TED-style events around the world. This year’s TEDxUCLWomen will be hosting their second event titled ‘Momentum’ at University College London. The event celebrates the remarkable achievements of women around the world, whilst also looking at some of the barriers preventing women and girls from reaching their full potential.

Momentum can mean different things to different people depending on what stage of their life they are in. For me, Momentum takes on the following significance:-

“When you become paralysed, Momentum is a bittersweet concept. With time it is reactivated and soon becomes your pulse”

As a specialist spinal injury lawyer, the opportunity to share a concept that might change the way something is done or approached, provides me with immense satisfaction. I became paralysed over 20 years ago, and I relish advocating the needs of other spinal cord injured people in my capacity as head of Spinal Injuries at Bolt Burdon Kemp and Senior Vice-Chair for the Spinal Injuries Association.

I have previously discussed the various facets of spinal cord injury on Daybreak and Sky News and am looking forward to the opportunity TEDxUCL offers for discussing and sharing ideas on how women with a spinal cord injury approach barriers and the role society plays in the reintegration of people who suffer such a life changing injury.

Event details:

13:00- 22:00 on Thursday 28th May 2015

Roberts G06 Sir Ambrose Fleming Lecture Theatre and the Roberts Foyer at University College London.
