The Encephalitis Society

On 17 May I did the 2.6 challenge for the amazing Encephalitis Society.  Encephalitis is an inflammation of the brain caused by an infection or through the immune system attacking the brain in error.  500,000 people are affected by encephalitis globally each year and yet 70% of people across the world do not know what encephalitis is.

The charity’s vision is a world aware of encephalitis, its consequences and the support available.  The effects of encephalitis range from cognitive changes, behavioural and emotional changes or physical difficulties.  The Encephalitis Society provides support to individuals and families whose lives have been affected by encephalitis and offers comprehensive and accredited information about the signs, symptoms and causes of encephalitis in children and adults and the outcomes of this devastating condition.

My Challenge

I decided to challenge myself by attempting to run 2.6 miles in 26 minutes.  I should start by saying that I’m really not much of a runner, only doing the occasional flat route every now and again.  Having recently moved out of London, a flat route wasn’t much of an option – or much fun for a challenge so hills it was!

I decided that music was needed for my run and the cheesier the better, so with Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat blaring in my ears, I set off down the hill.

Unfortunately, what goes down must go up…

Relieved by finding a flat path, I powered on, now with The Greatest Showman as my soundtrack.  After a few more hills, and a few songs from Lady Gaga, I was home!

And the results are in, 25:03 minutes!
