Venables back behind bars
March 03, 2010
Waking this morning to the news that Jon Venables, the boy who was convicted of murdering James Bulger in 1993, was back behind bars evoked powerful memories for me. I am the same age as Venables and remember the story from the point of view of a ten year old. The question on everyone's lips is what has he done to warrant the recall? Other detainees in custody are going to work out who he is, aren't they? This raises interesting human rights implications . Will Venables' identity remain protected?
