The new BBC3 series 'Our War: 10 Years in Afghanistan' provides a fascinating insight into what military personnel really face during a tour of duty in Afghanistan. Those of us who represent troops who have been badly treated in their compensation claims hear the stories, but now we can see the reality, and it’s frightening just to watch. The three part series uses a mixture of footage filmed by helmet cameras and interviews with the men themselves. The footage of serious injury and loss of life faced by new recruits on their first operational tour often makes for uncomfortable viewing. The bravery of the young men working under enormous pressure is clear to see. The filmmakers have provided a warts and all look at operational life and have not shied away from difficult issues, such as the problems faced when working with unfamiliar equipment.
The series is shown on Tuesdays at 9pm.
