The Times reported yesterday that the NHS is to provide therapists for 1.2m people suffering from work-related stress, depression and other psychiatric problems. The government will announce £300m extra funding for “talking therapies” over the next four years. Andrew Lansley, the health secretary said he wanted mental health to be regarded as equally important to the NHS as tackling cancer or heart disease. Currently over 40% of people on incapacity benefits have work-related stress, anxiety and depression. This highlights the scale of the problems caused by stress at work.
