The cows, cars and the law!

February 05, 2010

So I return from my escapade of India, exploring my family routes to exploring the beautiful scenery and yet still making time to visit the law courts.

What a journey! Having spoken with a few lawyers and visiting the home of law, Gujarat's High Court, I was surprised to hear that being a lawyer held the same value as being a business owner or a shop keeper. Many qualify as lawyers but do not seem to be practising. Then what is the purpose behind doing so, one may ask? It is seen that if you train to become a lawyer you are better off because of your status, regardless of whether you are practising or not. Therefore, more and more law graduates are becoming qualified and not practising.

On a Personal Injury note, the roads have not changed. When you are in the car be warned! You're either swerving to avoid a cow or a dog crossing the road, or an on-coming driver and even pedestrians. There are no road regulations about which side of the road you must drive on and no pavements. Personally, I think they just like to live dangerously, and I was always praying to see if I would live another day, as well as carrying the essentials like my business card, a pen and a camera with me at all times in the event of an accident! I don't think some of them have a clue about the meaning of Personal Injury and if they did then they would be claiming left, right and centre.
