The Military Covenant must become law

David Cameron looks like going back on his election promise to put the Covenant into law. The Covenant puts into words what most people think is society’s duty to care for soldiers (and it only applies to soldiers, I may say, not members of the other Services). But until it’s law it doesn’t even do that – it just says what the duty OUGHT to be. The fact that it’s needed is shown by how many military compensation claims I’m asked have to run on behalf of personnel who’s been hurt, then not looked after. No Covenant for them….
