TFL to reconsider closure of cycle lane on Blackfriars Bridge

Blackfriars Bridge is said to be one of the capital’s most notorious bridges for cycling accidents, yet TFL are planning to remove the cycle lane. This has provoked an outcry from cyclists which has forced TFL to reopen the consultation. In 2004 a cyclist was crushed to death by a bus and became the second cyclist in 15 months to die on the bridge following a cycling accident. The plans would involve the removal of the cycle lane outside the station entrance to create a third lane for traffic and extra pavement space. Responses to the reopened consultation can be sent to STEngagement@tfl.gov.uk until 15th April.
