Should the Catholic Church reverse its celibacy rule?
May 05, 2010
Over the bank holiday I was at home for a party – a few of us ended up chatting about the Catholic Church scandal, which has dominated the press recently. One of things which emerged was the view that celibacy rule should be reversed. The vow originates from the fact that the church did not want heirs making claims on money and land. Outdated? I think we must reassess the pool of people who can become priests in the wake of this horrendous and wide spread cover up of abuse which has gone on for years.
