'Sarah's law' sex offender alert scheme may be expanded
January 26, 2010
Should parents across England and Wales be told about sex offenders who come into contact with their children? There is currently a trial scheme being operated in Warwickshire, Cambridgeshire, Stockton-on-Tees and Southampton where parents can do just that. The Home Secretary is considering rolling this out across the whole of England and Wales. Strong opposition comes from those who say that abuse is perpetrated by people who are known to children and what's more, so few actual offenders are on the register. It will be interesting to see what the government decides.
