Pleural Plaques injustice

Earlier this year the government set up a compensation scheme for those who had begun, but not resolved, legal claims for compensation for pleural plaques following exposure to asbestos. Unfortunately those who have developed pleural plaques through secondary exposure are not entitled to compensation. As a result partners and children of people who worked with asbestos and developed pleural plaques are not entitled to compensation in England and Wales however they are in Scotland. This seems very unfair given that exposure to asbestos increases the risk of developing a serious illness and can give rise to an understandable sense of anxiety and unease and is still the same condition whether you were exposed directly or secondary.
