Motorcycle Helmet safety ratings

The Road Safety Minister announced new safety ratings for motorcycle helmets to offer motorcyclists the best advice and information on choosing a helmet. SHARP is the Department for Transport's safety Helmet Assessment and Rating Programme. All the ratings have been published on its new website, which include guidelines and information for motorcyclists on how to find the right helmet. The site also included demonstrations of the tests and how to ensure a helmet fits properly. The ministry estimates that 50 deaths could be prevented each year if all riders wore the safest helmets available. The SHARP tests award ratings of between one and five stars and they show than the safety performance of helmets can vary by as much at 70 percent.
