Motorbike airbag jackets could avoid deaths

Having watched the motor gp races this weekend I was reassured that the riders wear airbag jackets to protect them in the event of an accident. If motorbike airbag jackets were made compulsory, many lives could be saved on the road every year following motorbike accidents. Motorcyclists are more likely to suffer serious injuries if they have an accident and come off their motorbikes and if the airbag jackets were made compulsory the severity of the injuries could be reduced. The jackets are worn by bikers and inflate if a rider is thrown off during an accident, helping protect the wearer. There’s no questions that airbag jackets do protect the vital organs and spine over and above the protection that a normal jacket provides. The majority of deaths from motorcycle accidents are due to injuries that can possibly be prevented by these type of jackets. There are no plans to make these jackets compulsory but in my view it should be considered by the government in order to help reduce fatalities or serious injuries as a result of motorbike accidents.
